British Embassy Quito hosts Consular Assistance workshop
On Thursday 24 November, the British Embassy organised a workshop at the Quito Contemporary Art Centre to share information about handling vulnerable cases.
The event involved a wide range of Ecuadorean authorities, who provided guidance on protocols for cases involving gender violence, mental health and vulnerable groups such as minors. Colleagues from other diplomatic missions also attended the workshop to share their experience.
In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November, the workshop focused particularly on tackling gender-based violence. The event also included a discussion on preventative measures, tourism security and crisis readiness.

Following the workshop, the Embassy held a networking event for the British community to learn more about consular assistance and the UK Government’s new consular strategy. Prevention, outreach and support to vulnerable citizens are key elements of this approach.
