Crime news: change in financial circumstances reports now easier

You can now submit a change in financial circumstances (CIFC) on a CRM14 without the need to enter interests of justice (IOJ) information.

Hand holding pencil above calculator and paperwork

We are amending the process for CRM14 eforms to allow providers to report client changes in financial circumstances without entering interests of justice (IOJ) information.

Why is this happening now?

We are making this change in response to provider feedback that they would like a more streamlined process when reporting a change in financial circumstances (CIFC).

How will this work?

The process is set out in a short demonstration video available on our training and support website.

This explains that after opening the CRM14 eform you should:

  • select the option for ‘change in financial circumstances’

  • follow the prompts to complete the form until you reach the IOJ section

  • select ‘reason 1’ under the ‘why do you want legal aid’ heading

  • enter ‘CIFC’ in the text box that opens up

  • complete remainder of form without the need to enter IOJ information

Guidance on reporting changes

You can also download guidance on reporting client changes in financial circumstances from our training and support website.

This explains how to ensure clients are paying an appropriate income contribution in the Crown Court or continue to be eligible in the magistrates’ court.
