Crime news: updated Crown Court travel and mileage claim guidance
We have updated our guidance to provide more detail on how to make accommodation and mileage claims for Crown Court work.
Providers now have updated guidance which confirms that:
- caseworkers have discretion to agree higher overnight hotel costs
- providers need to show a lack of suitable accommodation within the guideline rates for the discretion to apply
We have also clarified when the LAA will pay for the standard mileage rate of 45p a mile instead of the public transport rate of 25p a mile.
The updated guidance now includes:
- what evidence is required when requesting hotel costs in excess of the guideline rates
- circumstances and venues where the standard rate of mileage will be paid
Why is this happening now?
These updates are designed to clarify the guidance we offer providers on overnight accommodation. This includes the justifications and exceptions around the standard mileage rate.
The changes have been made following feedback from providers on hotel and travel costs.
