The International Book Fair in Guayaquil, Ecuador has paid tribute to the centenary of Roald Dahl’s birth this month. The Fair organisers and the British Embassy set up an interactive area called ‘Dahl-land’, where children and adults learnt more about the life and work of the celebrated writer. One of the highlights of the five day Fair was daily public readings from “Matilda” for visiting children.
The International Fair was opened by the Mayor of Guayaquil, Jaime Nebot, and the Ambassador also attended. The guest of honour at this year’s Fair was Nobel laureate, J M Coetzee.
The Embassy is very grateful to the Municipality of Guayaquil for their cooperation in organising this tribute to Roald Dahl.
