Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to host London Recruits

On 10 June the Liliesleaf foundation will host an event to celebrate the efforts of the London Recruits. The London Recruits were a group of UK students who played an important and sometimes unorthodox role in opposing apartheid and supporting the liberation movement. Liliesleaf Farm in northern Johannesburg, South Africa, was the secret base for African National Congress activists in the 1960s. In 1963 Liliesleaf was raided by the apartheid security forces, ANC leaders – including Nelson Mandela – were arrested, and they were then tried in the Rivonia Trial of 1963.
Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will host the event.
