DFID support for Mother’s Day campaign
The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood and Mumsnet presented Minister Stephen O'Brien with a Mother's Day Card on behalf of mothers and mums-to-be everywhere.
The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood and Mumsnet presented Minister for International Development Stephen O’Brien with a Mother’s Day Card on behalf of mothers and mums-to-be everywhere.
As part of the White Ribbon Alliance’s global ‘Dreams for My Daughter’ campaign, the Alliance is asking that parents’ dreams for life will be better for their daughters; that they will have access to health care and education and not forced into early marriage and pregnancy, come true.
Marking the occasion Stephen O’Brien said:
“The UK is an international leader on improving reproductive, maternal and newborn health. The Coalition Government’s Framework for Results, which was published at the end of last year demonstrates our focus and commitment on these issues.
“It is nothing short of a disgrace that, in the 21st century, one of the most dangerous things a woman in the developing world will do is get pregnant. As part of the effort to tackle this, UK aid will save the lives of at least 50,000 women in pregnancy and childbirth and 250,000 newborns by 2015.”
