So whose story is it anyway? In November, Ambassador Anne Sherriff invited British journalist Seun Matiluko and Belgian journalists Anouk Torbeyns and  Aurore Mudiayi Bukassa to share their personal experiences of how their identities have positively and negatively affected their professional lives. The panel discussion considered how the UK and Belgian media industries can better reflect the diversity of their readers and listeners.

Black History Month, which is observed every October in the UK, is dedicated to celebrating the contributions, culture, and history of Black people and communities. This year’s theme for UK Black History Month is “Reclaiming Narratives,” and marks a significant shift towards recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture.

Ambassador Sherriff said, “The journey of reclaiming narratives is not just a theme for Black History Month. It’s a movement towards acknowledging and appreciating the myriad of contributions that Black individuals have made throughout history, in the UK and with our wonderful contacts in Belgium.”

Aurore Mudiayi Bukassa said, “My professional career path has been a game of hide and seek. Black and minority voices need to stop hiding and just keep seeking.”
