The Women in Business Workshop started today in Chust, Namangan Region. More than 60 women who represent small and medium enterprises in the region will participate in training activities between 16-18 June which are designed to help them develop entrepreneurial skills. The Women in Business Workshop is co-organised by the British Embassy in Tashkent and the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan. Representatives of Rio Tinto, ITE Uzbekistan, Denton’s, Carlsberg Uzbekistan, GlaxoSmithKline and the British Council have sponsored and helped to organise the event and they will participate in the training and round table.
Nasiba Bazarova, Head of the Namangan Branch of the Women’s Committee, and Fiona Maxton, Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy, welcomed the participants at the opening ceremony today. In her speech, Miss Maxton noted:
This is the second Women in Business Workshop organised by the British Embassy. The experience of participating last year in Nukus, Karakalpakstan, was so overwhelmingly positive we could not wait to contribute to another event. We all have had various experiences and opportunities in different countries and different fields. We are here to try to pass on some of these experiences to hopefully help and inspire all of you to do what you want to do in the field you want to be in. I have met many women working in state public and business sectors in Uzbekistan. I have been impressed by their determination and confidence to success and their willingness, like the group of women gathered here today, to be role models and to give assistance to others who are just starting out.
Training activities will include courses on floristry and tailoring of modern clothing. They will be conducted by representatives of leading Tashkent flower shops and ateliers. Participants will learn how to set up a manufacturing process in such enterprises, run businesses and promote similar products in the local market.
Two-days of training on business start-ups and management will be a key activity of the workshop. Participants will learn how to start a business and become successful entrepreneurs. They also will study how to overcome barriers in business and use marketing tools for selling products and services in the local market, work with clients, conduct negotiations and become effective entrepreneurs. The training modules will be interactive to help participants to better understand business theories through practical exercises.
Another important component of the event will be a round table titled “Business Woman: How to achieve success in business”. Keynote speakers at the round table will be women managers working for British companies in Uzbekistan and the British Council. They will share their personal experience in building careers with the participants and advise them on developing essential business skills.
