FCO hosts annual UK - Japan Nuclear Dialogue
Professor Robin Grimes opens the latest annual dialogue between UK and Japan to share nuclear expertise
The fourth annual UK-Japan Nuclear Dialogue is being hosted by the FCO on 24-25 November.
Professor Robin Grimes, the FCO’s Chief Scientific Advisor, and Mr Yoshitoshi Nakamura, Deputy Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, are co-chairing the Dialogue.
Over the course of the two days the UK and Japan will share experiences and expertise on nuclear research and development, public communication, nuclear safety and regulation, decommissioning and decontamination, and nuclear policy.
Opening the dialogue, Professor Grimes said:
I welcome ongoing UK-Japan nuclear collaboration including exchange of expertise and experience. UK companies and knowledge have been helping with some of the challenges at Fukushima Daiichi, and Japanese companies are playing a key role in our low carbon energy future including through the Wylfa and Moorside new build projects.
The annual dialogue was agreed during the Prime Minister’s visit to Japan in April 2012 and builds on existing strong cooperation between the UK and Japan in this field.
