FCO Minister welcomes UN consultations intended to restore peace process in Yemen
Minister Tobias Ellwood welcomes consultations intending to restore progress towards a political solution to the conflict in Yemen
Responding to the announcement, Tobias Ellwood said:
I welcome the UN Secretary General’s announcement that consultations will start on 28 May in Geneva. These are intended to restore progress towards a sustainable, inclusive and Yemini-led political solution to the conflict. The UK fully supports the UN’s vital efforts and backs their call for participants to engage in these consultations in good faith and without preconditions.
I also strongly welcome the fact that, thanks to the recent humanitarian pause and the decision by the Government of Saudi Arabia to shift to targeted naval interdictions, critical food and fuel supplies have been able to enter the country. However, the humanitarian situation remains grave, and I urge all parties to the conflict to show restraint and enable sustained humanitarian access to allow life-saving aid to reach affected communities.
