Fletcher visits school in Dahieh and Sayyed Ali Fadlallah, announces UK support to children affected by terrorism

British Ambassador to Lebanon Tom Fletcher visited Al-Kawthar school, part of the Mabarrat Association, where he announced a UK-funded project to support children affected by terrorism. Fletcher also met with Sayyed Ali Fadlallah and discussed local and regional issues, highlighting the need for Lebanese dialogue and rejection of sectarian strife and terrorism in all their forms.
Ambassador Fletcher toured the school and met with the classmates of Malak Zahwi who was a victim of a terrorist attack earlier this year. He was accompanied by the Director General of the Mabarrat Association, Dr. Mohammad Baqer Fadlallah, and the school director Rana Ismail. He announced the UK’s support to students affected by terrorist attacks, through a pilot project to provide psycho-social care to students of Al-Abrar School in Khaldeh.
Ambassador Fletcher said after visiting the school:
‘I was moved to hear from children suffering the trauma of the recent terror attacks. I am pleased to announce that the UK will support a pilot project offering psycho-social support to the children of Al-Abrar school in the Mabarrat complex in Khaldeh. We stand with Lebanon against terrorism, for which there is no justification.’
Ambassador Fletcher also met with Sayyed Ali Fadlallah where they discussed the situation in Syria, and the need to safeguard Lebanon from its repercussions, humanitarian support for the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and the importance of dialogue to ensure stability and preserve the security of Lebanon.
After meeting Sayyed Ali Fadlallah, Ambassador Fletcher said:
‘I am pleased to have met Sayyed Ali. I expressed the UK’s condolences for the victims of recent terrorist attacks and their families. There can be no excuse for terrorism and violence. I appreciate Sayyed Ali’s role in calling for coexistence and dialogue in Lebanon.’
