In his message at the end of the holy month of Ramadan, British Ambassador to Lebanon Tom Fletcher said:

At the end of the holy month of Ramadan, over 2 million of my fellow countrymen and women will be getting ready to celebrate Eid el Fitr. It will be a time for many there and here in Lebanon to share quality time with family and friends.

I am conscious that the Eid falls at a time when many of those marking it are suffering, including those displaced from their homes. I am proud that the UK government, and the UK Muslim community, does so much to get them food, medicine, shelter and solidarity.

Eid el Fitr, like the holy month of Ramadan, is an opportunity to reflect on how we can build consensus, tolerance and moderation, in Lebanon and elsewhere. We want to do so with all who are ready to promote dialogue and coexistence.

Wherever you spend your Eid, I wish you all a very happy, peaceful and blessed Eid el Fitr.

Eid Mubarak!
