FCO Minister Alistair Burt: brutal attacks at Aleppo University highlight urgent need for political transition

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Commenting on reports of explosions in Aleppo which killed more than 80 people inside Aleppo University, the Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East, Alistair Burt, said:

“I am shocked at the appalling news of two explosions in Aleppo University which have reportedly killed more than 80 people, mostly students taking their exams, and injured a hundred more.

“If verified, this twin attack would be one of the deadliest since the beginning of the conflict in Syria. These brutal attacks highlight yet again the urgent need for a political transition and an end to the violence, and for those responsible for these acts to be held to account.”
