Responding to the news of the death of a UN peacekeeper in Southern Kordofan, Sudan, FCO Minister for Africa Mark Simmonds said:

I am shocked by the shelling of a UN compound in Kadugli, Southern Kordofan, yesterday. Attacks on the UN are unacceptable, and I condemn them. My thoughts and sympathies are with the families and comrades of those killed and injured in the attack, who were in Sudan to help build peace and trust between Sudan and South Sudan.
