Foreign Office Minister condemns "cowardly" Iraqi bombings
Minister for the Middle East Alistair Burt described the series of bomb attacks in Iraq on 20 March as cowardly.
The attacks have killed at least 43 people and wounded more than 200. The Foreign Office Minister said:
“I was deeply saddened to hear of the series of bombings targeting several Iraqi cities this morning. My thoughts go out to the bereaved and their families, and to those who were injured. We support the efforts of the Government of Iraq to provide security for all its citizens against such terrorism. We also note the timing of the attacks, just a week before the Arab League Summit in Baghdad. We hope Iraq’s leaders, and its friends and neighbours in the region, will see the attacks for what they are - a cynical, cowardly attempt to deflect them from meeting and one which should not succeed.”
