Foreign Office Minister condemns Taliban attack

Minister Tobias Ellwood calls for an end to violent attacks on Afghan civilians.

Tobias Ellwood, Minister for Afghanistan responds to the recent bomb attack in Kabul:

I was saddened to hear of the latest terrorist attacks in Kabul for which the Taliban have claimed responsibility. I condemn these appalling incidents and my deepest sympathies go to the victims and their families.

The Taliban need to put an end to such violent attacks on Afghan civilians and instead seize the opportunity to take part in a peaceful political process. The UK, with our international partners, will remain steadfast in our support for the Afghan Government and people.

I also condemn the attempted terrorist attack against the Indian consulate in Mazar-e-Sharif. Those who wish to derail current progress towards stronger regional relations cannot be allowed to succeed.
