Foreign Office Minister congratulates Ukraine on its Independence Day
On 24 August Ukraine celebrates its independence day, 25 years after it declared independence from the former USSR.
The Minister for Europe and the Americas, the Rt Hon Sir Alan Duncan MP, congratulates the Ukrainian people on the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
Sir Alan Duncan said:
The UK was the first EU country to recognise Ukraine, and we remain a staunch supporter of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Ukrainian people were united in their bid for independence 25 years ago, and we support Ukraine’s right to pursue her own prosperous and peaceful future. The relationship between our two countries has never been stronger, and we continue to work closely with the Ukrainian government in support of its reform agenda. On behalf of Her Majesty’s Government I am delighted to send my congratulations to the Ukrainian people as they mark this momentous anniversary.
