Foreign Secretary and Secretary Kerry hold talks in London
Foreign Secretary and US Secretary of State Kerry welcome E3+3 agreement with Iran and also discuss Syria and Libya.
An FCO spokesperson said:
The Foreign Secretary met US Secretary of State John Kerry in London this afternoon.
They discussed next steps in the implementation of the agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme, and the crisis in Syria.
The Foreign Secretary then joined Secretary Kerry for talks with Prime Minister Zeidan of Libya. Prime Minister Zeidan gave an update on the latest developments in Libya including on efforts to achieve a Libyan-led political settlement. The Foreign Secretary reiterated the UK’s commitment to support Libya’s transition, in particular a Libyan-led political settlement. As part of its package of support the UK is training 2,000 Libyan Armed Forces personnel in basic infantry skills.
The Foreign Secretary and Secretary Kerry welcomed the withdrawal of armed militias from Tripoli and hoped that this would be a step towards state forces providing national security. The UK and the US are committed to working closely with European partners and the UN to ensure Libya continued to get all necessary support to improve its security and stability.
