Foreign Secretary co-hosts meeting on Libya
Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson co-hosts meeting with the US on Libya in London.
The Foreign Secretary co-hosted a meeting on Libya with US Secretary of State John Kerry and international partners including France, Italy, UAE and Saudi Arabia. The meeting was also attended by Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Al-Serraj, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya Sadek El Kabeer and the UN Special Representative Martin Kobler.
Speaking after the meeting the Foreign Secretary said;
Along with US Secretary of State John Kerry, I have co-hosted a productive meeting with international partners to discuss Libya’s economic challenges and how to support the implementation of the Libyan Political Agreement.
There is strong international support for the Government of National Accord (GNA), internationally recognised as the sole legitimate government of Libya, to succeed and the situation in Libya has implications not just for regional stability, but also for the UK. Building a safe, secure and prosperous Libya that is able to confidently tackle the challenges in the region is in all of our interests. It is now imperative that the GNA makes swift progress on delivering public services: electricity in homes and cash in banks, for the benefit of all Libyans.
