“I am deeply saddened to hear of the deaths of UN staff and an Afghan policeman following an insurgent attack near the office of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Kandahar this morning. I condemn this callous attack on an organisation dedicated to helping displaced Afghans return home.
It is hard to see what the Taliban believe they can achieve through attacking those that are helping improve the lives of ordinary Afghan people. We will not allow such acts to detract us from building up Afghanistan’s ability to guarantee its own stability and security and to ensure a better future for all Afghans. My deepest sympathies and thoughts are with the families and friends of all those who were killed or injured today.”
