Foreign Secretary discusses Libya on BBC's Today Programme
Foreign Secretary William Hague spoke about the Libya Contact Group meeting, held in Istanbul this week.
Speaking of the Libya Contact Group’s decision to deal with the National Transitional Council (NTC), he said:
“This is a national council that intends to hold elections, to assemble an interim government once Qadhafi has gone, including the technocratic members of the existing regime, and to make sure that there is in every sense, in our sense, a legitimate governing authority.
“They command wide support across Libya; they are the focal point of co-ordination of all opposition groups in Libya; they have 49 representatives on their council who are drawn from all parts of Libya, and they are drawing up coherent plans for the future of Libya after the fall of Qadhafi.”
