Foreign Secretary meets Serbian Foreign Minister

The Foreign Secretary underlined British support for enlargement of the European Union to include all the countries of the Western Balkans and the importance of Serbia’s constructive engagement with its neighbours.

He welcomed Serbian progress so far towards meeting the criteria for EU candidate status and Belgrade’s decision to re-engage in the Dialogue with Pristina, and stressed the need for further steps towards constructive engagement on normalising relations with Kosovo and urgent and effective implementation of agreements reached to date. Decisions on candidacy will be for the European Council on 9 December.
