Foreign Secretary Message for Peace Day

Foreign Secretary William Hague has recorded a message in support of International Peace Day on 21 September.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

In his message for the Peace One Day Celebration, the Foreign Secretary spoke about the UK initiative aimed at preventing sexual violence in conflict:

“This is a crucial part of conflict prevention, of good development, of making sure that people know they can’t get away with terrible crimes wherever they may be in the world.

“And so at the United Nations General Assembly in the coming week I will be launching to other countries our ambition to use our G8 presidency next year to make real progress on tackling sexual violence in conflict, in combatting the idea that rape as a weapon of war is something that people can get away with. This is something that has affected hundreds of thousands of women, children and men caught up in conflicts and the world has to do something about it.”
