Foreign Secretary presses Libyan Foreign Minister to end violence
Foreign Secretary William Hague spoke to Libyan Foreign Minister Musa Kusa today. He stressed the need for an immediate end to the violence and killing of protesters.
He also underlined that Libya must adhere to all aspects of the UNSCR 1970 without delay.
The UN Security Council passed UNSC Resolution 1970 unanimously on 26 February. It condemns Qadhafi’s actions, and imposes a travel ban and assets freeze on those at the top of his regime.
It demands an immediate end to the violence and killing of protesters, access for international human rights monitors, lifting of restrictions on the internet and media and an end to the intimidation and detention of journalists.
It also imposes an arms embargo and refers Libya’s current leaders to the International Criminal Court in an unprecedented move.
