Foreign Secretary welcomes the appointment of new Yemeni Government

As new Yemeni Government formed, Foreign Secretary urges all political parties and groups to work together and not undermine the government’s authority.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said:

I congratulate President Hadi and Prime Minister Bahah on the formation of Yemen’s new government. I welcome their commitment to creating a better future for all the people of Yemen. This is a critical first step in addressing the serious economic, political and security challenges facing the country. It is vital that all political parties and groups work together with the new government to overcome these challenges, including the threat posed by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. I hope that the groups will adhere to the 1 November agreement on government formation including offering all necessary support to the new government.

I hope that Yemen’s neighbours, who all have an interest in a stable and prosperous Yemen, will work together in full support of the new government.
