The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) is committed to preventing and tackling fraud to ensure the protection of public funds.
In the past 12 months, CICA referred a number of cases to police authorities after identifying suspected fraudulent activity on claims for compensation.
These referrals have resulted in prosecutions and other successful outcomes, including:
- Custodial sentences and community orders for failing to disclose convictions and/or submitting duplicate claims
- Suspended prison sentence handed down for providing false information
- A custodial sentence for misappropriation of an award of compensation
CICA have updated their Customer Charter to reflect their commitment to tackling fraud.
