Gas and Electricity Markets Authority Appointments

The Department of Energy and Climate Change alongside Ofgem announced new appointments to the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (GEMA).

This was published under the 2015 to 2016 Cameron Conservative government

GEMA was established to support the interests and rights of consumers, by promoting effective competition and regulating networks in the gas and electricity industry.

Rachel Fletcher has been appointed as an Executive Director for a period of seven years, bringing a wealth of experience to her new role. Rachel joined Ofgem in 2005 to head up the retail market team and after moving to the Markets Division in 2012, she was the Ofgem lead for the Competition and Markets Authority’s Energy Markets Inquiry. Rachel is now Senior Partner for the Consumers and Competition Division.

Christine Farnish has been appointed as Non–Executive Director (NED) for a period of five years. Christine has a strong legacy as a NED across a range of sectors and extensive experience of consumer affairs. Christine’s current roles include; Chair at Peer to Peer Finance Association, NED at Ofwat, NED and Pension Trustee Chair at ABTA (the UK’s largest travel association), NED at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals and AXA Group Stakeholder Advisory Panel Member.
