Getting Started with Design Codes – An Office for Place Masterclass Series
The Office for Place is pleased to announce that we will be running a new series of events this autumn to support local councils to begin creating their own local design codes.
These events will run alongside a series of new tools, templates and guidance we will be publishing. We believe there is a strong case for investing time and resources into the production of design codes, and we want to empower and inspire local councils to get started with this important work as soon as they can.
Like the Masterclasses we ran in 2023, we intend for these sessions to be pragmatic and useful, offering attendees ideas and practical suggestions to help them in the development of their own design codes.
The sessions will be held online, are free to attend, open to all, and will run weekly from the start of October and into November. Speakers will be confirmed in due course and will be drawn from the across the public, private and third sectors.
All sessions will take place from 10:00am to 11:00am. The schedule for the programme is as follows, and booking details for each event can be reached by clicking on the title:
- 2nd October – Top tips for getting started
- 9th October – Creating an effective evidence base
- 16th October – Setting your design code vision
- 23rd October – Ingredients of a design code: part 1
- 30th October – Ingredients of a design code: part 2

These events will be held online, are free to attend, and open to all. Please do share with colleagues who would find this useful.
