GFSL launches apprenticeship scheme

Gov Facility Services Ltd (GFSL) is proud to announce the launch of our new apprenticeship programme, helping people to develop their skills and careers at the Ministry of Justice-owned company that supplies prison maintenance services.
Up to 24 apprenticeships will be on offer as NVQ Level 3 Electrical Engineering Apprentices or Mechanical Maintenance Engineering Apprentices in the company that works across 48 prisons in the South of England .
Due to begin in February 2021, we are running the programme with training providers New City College and Choice Training.
GFSL Chief Executive, Paul Ryder, said:
I’m thrilled to be announcing the launch of our apprentice programme today. We’re very excited to offer people the chance to gain technical skills and qualifications that are relevant to our organisation and our sector. We are dedicated to offering a tailored experience with consistent mentoring and training as the apprentices progress through the 3-4 year scheme. On completing the programme, the apprentices will qualify with an NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Mechanical.

GFSL is a Ministry of Justice owned not-for-profit company. Set up in 2018, we work closely with Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) to deliver a range of facility services to 48 prisons in the south of England, including statutory and mandatory planned maintenance, reactive repair, cleaning, stores operation and Project works. We also help the Prison Service reduce reoffending by providing opportunities for prisoners to develop skills and gain work experience. We currently support over a million hours per year of work by prisoners across the 48 prisons we maintain.

Choice training
Choice Training deliver apprenticeship training for over 60 companies such as The Bank of England, Skanska, Bouygues, CBRE, Optimum and many more. They deliver apprenticeships in Service and Maintenance, Plumbing, Electrical and BSE Craftsperson. All the teaching staff have worked in the trade with an average of 20 years’ experience each, plus around 10 years’ teaching experience.The company offers free scholarships to women trying to get into the construction industry and have done so now for 5 years with great success.
