Greening: Syrian regime must make good on aid promises

Statement from International Development Secretary Justine Greening on the first delivery of food aid to reach Daraya, Syria, since 2012

This was published under the 2015 to 2016 Cameron Conservative government

International Development Secretary Justine Greening said:

The arrival of desperately needed food supplies into Daraya, delivered by UK-funded agencies, is a welcome first step but cannot just be a one off. Asad must now make good on his promise to let aid flow, to provide life saving support to all besieged areas under his control.

At the same time, punishing areas where access has been agreed - whether attacks on children’s hospitals in Aleppo or renewed barrel bombing on Daraya - is utterly despicable and a violation of International Humanitarian Law.
