Helga Danmayr receives MBE in Vienna
Helga Danmayr, long-serving British Honorary Pro-Consul in Salzburg, Austria, received an MBE at a ceremony in Vienna, on 14 September 2017.
Helga started to work for the British Government as a Consular Assistant in 1983. In 1986, she was appointed Honorary Pro-Consul in Salzburg and proceeded to work in that role supporting Honorary Consul Martin Kaindl, OBE for three decades.
She worked on a broad range of consular issues in Salzburg, many of which were related to skiing accidents of British tourists.
The MBE is awarded for outstanding achievements or service to the community. Presenting the award alongside Defence Attaché Damien Plant, Ambassador Leigh Turner said:
Helga. You have worked at the British Honorary Consulate in Salzburg for over 30 years. You have provided constant support to British nationals in difficulty. You have visited prisons, hospitals and police stations, and were on the front line for the terrible coach crash of 2004.
You have been generous. You have been kind. You have been a wonderful public face for the Embassy and the UK in Salzburg, working with pride and dedication. I thank you, on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, and on behalf of the United Kingdom.
In recognition of these valuable services, Her Majesty the Queen has appointed you to be a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. It is with great pleasure that, on Her Majesty’s behalf, I present you with the badge of the Order. May I congratulate you.
