Ambassador Barnett said:

Yesterday I had the honour to bring greetings from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and present my letter of appointment to President Michael D Higgins. This is an important time for the UK, Ireland and Europe, as we work to implement the result of the 23 June referendum.

I will be working hard to ensure friendship and warm relations between the peoples of these islands continues to grow. I am looking forward to developing even stronger economic, people-to-people, and cultural links. I am also looking forward to travelling the beautiful country of Ireland and to receiving the céad míle fáilte for which it is known throughout the world.
