High Commissioner marks International Day of Peace in Mbarara

British High Commissioner HE Alison Blackburne, accompanied by the Defence Adviser, Lt Col Mike Nicholls, participated in an event in Mbarara today to mark the International Day of Peace. The event, hosted by Minister of State for General Duties, Prof Tarsis Kabwegyere, involved the symbolic destruction, in a fire, of 100 illegal firearms.

The UK is committed to helping the Ugandan authorities increase security by introducing more effective controls on small arms and light weapons. The event on the International Day of Peace was the latest in a series of engagements within this programme of assistance.
