Hello. I’m Thomas Reilly, the new British Ambassador to Morocco. Today the Queen delivered her speech on the occasion of the State Opening of Parliament, setting out her government’s priorities for the coming year. Priorities which everyone in Her Majesty’s Government – whether in the Home Office, the Department for Health, or, like me and my staff, the Diplomatic Service – will be striving to deliver.
This year in Morocco, my priorities are to further deepen our 800 year-old relationship, forging a strong partnership of equals to take advantage of our strong commercial and cultural links and face the security challenges together in the region and at home. I hope to see the numbers of British tourists visiting Morocco – already at more than 600,000 – increase. As Morocco looks to expand its commercial links into sub-Saharan Africa, I am looking forward to identifying and developing opportunities for mutually beneficial trade partnerships between our two countries. And with an increasing interest here in the English language and culture – and a desire in the UK to learn more about more cultures – I look forward to further deepening our academic, educational and cultural links.
