HRH The Princess Royal visits Bermuda for the America's Cup
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal undertook a whirlwind visit to Bermuda in support of the 25th America's Cup.
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, accompanied by her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, made her fifth visit to Bermuda as the final set of races of the America’s Cup drew towards a close.
During her stay in Bermuda, The Princess Royal visited the America’s Cup Village, meeting representatives of voluntary associations, members of the Team BDA (the Bermuda Red Bull Youth America’s Cup team) and Sir Ben Ainslie and members of the Land Rover BAR team. Her Royal Highness also visited the historic Royal Naval Dockyard and the Commissioners House.
During the visit Her Royal Highness met troops from the Royal Bermuda Regiment security team, as well as British Army personnel seconded for the event. The America’s Cup has been the Bermuda Regiment’s biggest ever deployment.
Governor of Bermuda, John Rankin, offered warm thanks for this Royal Visit during the biggest sporting event ever held on the island and was most grateful for The Princess Royal’s show of support for all the volunteers who had helped to make the event a success.
