Human Rights Council 40: Explanation of Vote: Foreign Debt
The UK reaffirmed its calls for the Council to maintain a focused approach to human rights and believes the Council is not the correct forum to discuss foreign debt.
The United Kingdom continues to believe that it is important for the Human Rights Council to maintain a focused approach in fulfilling its mandate to promote and protect human rights. The UK does not believe that the Human Rights Council is the correct forum to discuss foreign debt. This resolution falls outside the scope of the mandate of the Council and duplicates other international discussions on this issue.
For these reasons the UK will call a vote on this resolution and vote no.
