"I have deep concern at the ongoing harrassment of Baha'is in Iran"
Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East Alistair Burt met with leaders of the Baha'i community on 9 November.
The meeting was a chance to discuss the problems that the Baha’i community continue to face in Iran.
Speaking after the meeting, the Minister said:
“I have deep concern at the ongoing harrassment of Baha’is in Iran. In particular, we have not forgotten the plight of the seven Baha’i leaders whose appeal process continues following their appalling conviction to 20 years in prison in August.
We will continue to raise their case internationally, and to urge the Iranian authorities to ensure that the rights of all their citizens are protected, without discrimination, in their courts, and in public life.”
