International partners urge Interim Juba Administration and Federal Government of Somalia to dialogue and consult
International partners encourage Interim Juba Administration and Federal Government to resolve issues through dialogue and consultations
The United Nations, Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the European Union (EU), African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the United States of America, and the United Kingdom welcome the progress made to date in the Juba state formation process.
We welcome the efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and encourage the Interim Juba Administration (IJA) and the Federal Government to work constructively to resolve any issues arising from the Interim Juba Regional Assembly process through dialogue and consultations. The current challenges concerning the formation of the Interim Juba Administration Assembly need to be addressed in a spirit of reconciliation and compromise.
The ministerial committee established by the Prime Minister on behalf of the Federal Government to advise on solutions is a positive step. We welcome this important development. We encourage all stakeholders to allow the Prime Minister and committee members time to do their work and give the committee the required cooperation.
We urge all stakeholders to refrain from actions that will undermine the wider state formation process or reverse gains made in the process. With the establishment of the Juba regional assembly, critical state building processes are ongoing, with respect to the Jubba constitution, and all require the strong support of Somali stakeholders and international partners at this time.
We hope to see a constructive solution through an orderly, inclusive and Somali-led process.
Somalia’s international partners remain committed to supporting the nation’s peace and state-building process.
