The last year in which science sampling took place was 2018. Ministers have since decided not to undertake any further science sampling at key stage 2 (KS2).

However, schools should still make teacher assessment (TA) judgements and submit TA data for science at the end of KS2.

Following a change of collection approach the key stage 2 (KS2) science results for 2014 are not comparable with the previous published data. Additional changes will be introduced in 2016 following the introduction of the new national curriculum.

As a result of the introduction of the new methodology, the 2014 results will be revised following the 2016 assessment to be reported on the same basis as the new measures in the future. Therefore the standard KS2 science bulletin will be replaced by a methodology paper published on 28 January 2016, which sets out the changes and the impact on the statistical series.
