James Brokenshire in north west to ensure Northern Ireland's voice is heard
The UK Government will work to ensure Northern Ireland gets the best deal possible in the forthcoming EU negotiations Secretary of State for Northern Ireland James Brokenshire stated today on his first visit to Northern Ireland’s north west as Secretary of State.
In a series of meetings with businesses, civic leaders and other key partners in Northern Ireland’s north west, the Secretary of State reiterated his commitment to ensure Northern Ireland’s voice is heard and interests protected.
Secretary of State for Northern Ireland James Brokenshire said:
Today is a valuable opportunity to speak to businesses and civic leaders in the north west about the UK Government’s priorities in Northern Ireland – political stability, economic prosperity and keeping people safe and secure. I am keen to listen to people’s concerns and offer UK Government support and engagement.
I also want to hear people’s ideas about the way forward and to ensure that Northern Ireland remains open for business. I am determined to ensure the UK Government works as closely as possible with people across Northern Ireland as we seek to make a success of the decision by the people of the United Kingdom to leave the EU.
Included among the Secretary of State’s visit today were:
- Seagate Technology where he heard about the company’s response to a rapidly changing technology market;
- The Pat Finucane Centre on finding a way a forward to address the legacy of Northern Ireland’s past;
- The PSNI to hear about security challenges in Londonderry;
- A forum with business representatives at the City Centre Initiative to gauge the perspective of businesses in the city; and
- An introductory meeting with the Apprentice Boys of Derry.
