Joint message by British and Italian Ambassadors to Poland on Earth Day
In 2021, the UK in partnership with Italy will preside over the COP26 UN climate conference.
Today, 22 April, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the UN Earth Day – an annual event dedicated to demonstrating support for environmental protection and action on climate change.
Currently, the world is facing an unprecedented global challenge and countries are rightly focused on fighting COVID-19. At the same time, climate change presents a long term challenge, but also a significant opportunity to rebuild more sustainable economies, resilient environments and societies, for the sake of the present and future generations.
In 2021, the UK in partnership with Italy will preside over the COP26 UN climate conference. As incoming President of COP26, both the UK and our Italian partners are committed to bringing countries and partners together to successfully deliver on the Paris Agreement, in the run-up to COP26.
We must keep up our climate ambitions. We must promote real world action to “bend the curve” on emissions. An array of technologically innovative solutions can be employed on the road to success of this ambitious agenda. The UK and Italy look forward to close cooperation with Polish authorities, counting also on their experience in preparing and holding COP24 in Katowice.
