Joint RCVS and VMD guidance published
Guidance developed for vets following changes to RCVS guidance on prescribing POM-V medicines.
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has published joint RCVS/VMD guidance on prescribing POM-V medicines.
We have developed this together as a result of an increase in queries from vets following the changes to the RCVS guidance on prescribing POM-V medicines after the College’s ‘under care’ review.
The RCVS and VMD have collated answers to the most frequently asked questions, in order to assist vets in clinical practice.
The guidance includes:
- what to write in the clinical notes when prescribing POM-Vs for ongoing treatment
- accounting for weight loss/gain when prescribing POM-Vs for ongoing treatment
- manufacturer supply and stock issues
- ongoing treatment and side effects/adverse events
- prescribing controlled drugs
You can report a suspected problem with an animal medicine to the VMD online or directly to the veterinary medicinal product Marketing Authorisation Holder.
If you have any further questions, contact:
- RCVS; advice@rcvs.org.uk
- VMD; postmaster@vmd.gov.uk
