King Charles’s Birthday Party at the British Embassy in Argentina
On 23 November, the British Embassy in Buenos Aires celebrated HM King Charles III’s birthday at Ambassador Hayes’s Residence.
The British Embassy in Argentina celebrated HM King Charles III’s 75th birthday at Ambassador Kirsty Hayes’s Residence. The celebration was attended by about 900 guests, including figures from the political and business world, diplomats, academics, artists, journalists and civil society members.
During her speech, Ambassador Hayes took the opportunity to congratulate President-elect Javier Milei on his recent election victory. “The UK is ready to start a new chapter in our long and rich bilateral relationship, and to keep strengthening links between Argentines and Britons”, said the head of the diplomatic mission.
The Ambassador also said that this year marked the 200th anniversary of the appointment of Woodbine Parish as the first British Consul General in Buenos Aires, thereby “starting a bilateral relationship that, despite its ups and downs, has been the broadest and busiest that the UK has had in this region”, she said.
The local celebration of the King’s birthday received carbon neutral certification. To offset the emissions of the event, the British Embassy will plant a native tree for each of the guests who attended the event, enabling us to reforest an area of the Lanin National Park equivalent to 4 - 5 football pitches.
Following the speech, Lucila Gandolfo, an Argentine actress and singer of British descent, trained at the Royal Academy of Music, sang the national anthems of Argentina and the UK.
The event was supported by several British companies, which had the opportunity to display their products and services bearing the UK seal of excellence.
