An annual campaign that will bring together Mexican and British experts to promote prosperity and economic development has been launched.

Innovation UKMX is an ambitious project in which British companies, institutions and individuals will be able to establish partnerships with their Mexican counterparts. Following the success of the UK and Mexico Dual Year 2015, the bilateral relationship is stronger than ever. This has opened the way for exciting new opportunities for collaboration. From robotics to the life sciences; from space technology to creative industries, the United Kingdom is a world leader in innovation. In Mexico it has an invaluable ally with similar ideas, goals and values. That is why Innovation UKMX will provide unique opportunities in a wide range of sectors.

In education, the Chevening Programme, Newton Fund, and the British Council will lead collaborations between British and Mexican universities and special activities for the academic community. One of them is ‘Innovative Nights’, with a discussion table format to talk about topics such as smart cities, environment, agritech and biodiversity.

In the business sector, the Embassy’s international trade team will work on a programme that includes projects with the low-carbon automotive sector and a mission of more than 40 British companies specializing in energy. The mission will showcase solutions advanced technology in Mexico.

In the creative industries there will be collaborations with British artists and creators who will participate in music, art and technology festivals in Mexico with sound installations and visual effects.

British Ambassador to Mexico Duncan Taylor said: “This is an ideal time for Innovation UKMX. Our countries share creativity, ingenuity and love for innovation, and I am sure that the partnerships that result from this effort will yield fruitful results.”
