#LestWeForget - British Embassy Tokyo joins Remembrance Day Commemorations
The British Embassy Tokyo hosted this year’s formal Remembrance Day Service held at the Commonwealth War Cemetery, Hodogaya, Yokohama on Sunday 12th November 2017.
British Ambassador to Japan Paul Madden CMG and Defence Attaché Capt Paul Casson represented the UK and laid wreaths at a formal Remembrance Day Service open to the public.
British Embassy Tokyo staff were invited to observe two-minute silence at 11am on the morning of 11th November.
In western Japan, British Consul-General Sarah Wooten joined representatives from other nations at a memorial service at Kobe City Foreigners’ Cemetery, hosted by the French Consul-General.
In the UK, Remembrance Sunday is held on the Sunday nearest to 11th November (Remembrance Day). This anniversary marks the end of World War I on 11th November 1918 and the Remembrance service is to commemorate British Commonwealth and Allied personnel who lost their lives in the two World Wars of the 20th Century and subsequent conflicts.
