Literature and Publishing study visit to the UK: call for applications

Call for applications from Russian professionals for a study visit to the UK from 26 January to 3 February 2019.

The Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow announces an open call for applications from Russian professionals in the fields of literature and publishing to take part in a study visit to the UK from 26 January to 3 February 2019.

We are inviting leaders and innovators who promote reading culture and different approaches to books, working with writers, studying the contemporary literary process or running educational and cultural events.

Participants will travel to the UK to meet leading literary agents in London and organisers of the biggest festivals and book fairs, such as the Edinburgh International Book Fair. They will also visit a number of creative residencies, including the National Centre for Writing in Norwich and some of the oldest libraries and literary institutions in the country. They will be introduced to curators of literary awards and museums and galleries.

The programme will involve travel to four cities: Edinburgh, Manchester, London and Norwich and will include individual business meetings and a number of networking events.

Participants will be selected on the basis of their responses to the application form. The number of places is limited.

Successful applicants should:

  • have innovative projects, initiatives or working approaches in at least one the following sectors:

i) publishing

ii) literature fairs and festivals or any other events, promoting books and reading culture

iii) literary awards

iv) library management

v) literary critics and journalism

vi) literary translation

  • have at least three years of experience in the sector

  • be interested in their professional development and international collaboration
  • have a decision making role in their organisation
  • speak fluent English
  • be a Russian citizen over 18 years old
  • hold a foreign passport

Interviews may be arranged with shortlisted applicants.

The Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy will cover the cost of visas, flights, accommodation and transfers in the UK, as well as arranging a business, educational and entertainment programme. Successful applicants will be expected to cover the cost of meals and local public transport independently.

Successful applicants will be notified by 1 November 2018.

The selection process will be conducted in line with equality and diversity policies.
