Lord Faulks, UK Justice Minister visits Kyrgyzstan
Lord Faulks, QC, became the first UK justice minister to visit the Kyrgyz Republic.
On 9 to 10 October Lord Faulks, QC, became the first UK justice minister to visit the Kyrgyz Republic. The purpose of his visit was to learn more about the ongoing justice sector reform in the Kyrgyz Republic and to reiterate UK support for the process.
During his visit Lord Faulks met Head of Presidential Administration Narymbaev, Minister of Justice Shykmamatov, Interior Minister Turganbaev, General Prosecutor Salyanova, Supreme Court Chief Djamasheva and Deputy Foreign Minister Otorbaev. Lord Faulks also met representatives of business and civil society. He delivered a speech on “Justice and Human Rights: A UK Perspective” at the Law Academy of the Kyrygz Republic and gave a range of media interviews.
At the end of his visit, Lord Faulks said:
I have detected a determination to complete ambitious rule of law reform in the Kyrgyz Republic. The UK is ready to support the complex and challenging justice sector reform in Kyrgyzstan, and to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
