The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Alan Yarrow, is to lead a business delegation to Sri Lanka (17-19 May) as part of efforts to make sure London and the UK remain the regional partner of choice when it comes to financial and professional services.
The Lord Mayor, acting as ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services, will be meeting with senior members of the government, investment authorities, regulators and business leaders.
The Lord Mayor will also visit HSBC and will recognise staff members who have completed the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Investment Operations Certificate (IOC) examinations and those who have been recently awarded membership of the CISI. He will then go on to visit Millennium IT, the Colombo based IT firm that specialises in electronic trading systems to award staff there who have achieved CISI qualifications. His visit will also see him ring the ceremonial bell to open the Sri Lanka Stock Exchange
Speaking ahead of his trip, Lord Mayor Yarrow said:
“As the leading financial centre in the world, the City of London has a host of world-class firms with the right expertise and experience that can support Sri Lanka in its economic development. I want to leave the message that we want to be the natural partner of choice – crucially not just London businesses, but those up and down the UK. “
“With Sri Lanka looking to adopt a more open approach to the West under President Sirisena, my visit will look to build economic ties with the government, central bank, regulators and the business community. The end goal is that both our countries benefit financially from increased trade, business partnerships and investment opportunities in the coming years.”
After Sri Lanka, the Lord Mayor will also visit:
- Jakarta, Indonesia (19 - 21 May)
- Singapore (21 – 23 May)
- Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (24 - 26 May)
