Lord Mayor of the City of London visit to Algiers
Alderman Fiona Woolf, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, visited Algiers from 14-16 June.

Alderman Fiona Woolf, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, paid a visit to Algiers from 14-16 June. She was accompanied by Lord Risby, the Prime Minister’s Envoy for Economic Partnership with Algeria, and a delegation of British companies which includes Mayer Brown, Citibank, Clifford Chance, Reuters, and Shell.
The Lord Mayor is the Ambassador for the City of London, which she promotes as the world leader in international finance and business services. She paid a visit to Algiers to support the work of British financial and business services companies investing, or wanting to invest, in Algeria. The delegation met with Prime Minister Sellal and the Ministers of Finance, Health, National Education as well as the Governor of the Central Bank and a cross section of British and Algerian businessmen.

“The appointment of Lord Risby as the British Prime Minister’s Economic Envoy has seen great steps forward in our trade relationship. Trade between our two countries is growing. It was nearly £4bn in 2013, a 62% increase from 2012, and this year already looks likely to be even more successful.
Investment by British companies is creating jobs in Algeria and helping the Algerian Government in its policy to diversify the economy. Together with Algerian partners, we are helping to build hospitals, launch satellites, invest in Algeria’s agricultural sector and improve teaching of the English language. London is the world capital for business, finance and culture and the Lord Mayor’s visit will help increase Algeria’s growing financial services relationship with the United Kingdom.”
