Major £17 million earthworks contract awarded on Sellafield project
The Programme and Project Partners at Sellafield announces latest contract win for earthworks contract.
The Programme and Project Partners (PPP), a 20-year partnership transforming how Sellafield Ltd delivers major projects, continues supply chain expansion with earthworks package award.
Keltbray, specialist construction engineering and infrastructure services provider, has been awarded the contract to provide a development platform and supporting infrastructure on one of Sellafield Ltd’s latest major project.
The delivery of the contract, valued at £17 million, is the first major contract secured by Keltbray on key infrastructure projects at the Sellafield site.
Keltbray will deliver a development platform for the Intermediate Level Waste East Zone, in preparation for the follow-on construction of the Lightly Shielded Store 1 (LSS1), a partnership led project which will safely store intermediate level waste packages as part of Sellafield Ltd’s decommissioning programme.
The company will also provide a new access road and drainage to the Sellafield site and temporary utility supplies to both the LSS1 construction plot and the adjacent temporary accommodation plot.
As the first model of its kind, the Programme and Project Partnership is working collaboratively with Sellafield Ltd to achieve excellent large-scale projects, supporting Sellafield Ltd’s purpose of creating a clean and safe environment for future generations.
The Programme and Project Partners is creating new partnerships and new opportunities as part of this drive to deliver the major projects, opening vibrant opportunities throughout the supply chain, economy and local communities.
Since procured by Sellafield Ltd in 2019, the partnership has awarded contracts with the potential to exceed £3 billion.
With more than 100 years of work ahead at the site, Sellafield is becoming one of the largest infrastructure projects in the north, generating growth and employment in Cumbria, the north-west of England and beyond.
John Rossiter, head of supply chain at Programme and Project Partners, said:
“As we welcome another industry leading infrastructure organisation to PPP, contract awards such as this demonstrate the value of the PPP model and the breadth of expertise we are bringing together within our growing supply chain to achieve our shared goals.
“I look forward to Keltbray integrating into the project delivery team and successfully delivering this critical project, which supports PPP in delivering the Sellafield Ltd mission.”
Darren James, chief executive officer at Keltbray, said:
“We’re delighted to be selected to deliver this critical contract, which will showcase our expertise in delivering to a high specification in safety-critical nuclear environments.
